MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

The California Court Reporters Association (CCRA) serves equally our members, our profession and the public by defending the delivery of justice as the statewide representative of the entire court reporting profession. CCRA promotes and defends the stenographic profession which is unmatched in its ability to produce a realtime transcript. We educate the legal and political community on behalf of all court reporters. Our membership protects, promotes and advocates for firm owners, freelancer and official court reporters as well as hearing reporters.

Membership in CCRA costs just 52 cents a day - very inexpensive insurance to keep YOUR profession alive!

Regular Member
Must hold a valid California CSR license.

New Professional Member
Any newly licensed California Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) in the first twelve (12) months of licensure. New Professional Members shall be entitled to all privileges of membership except holding office.

LACCRA Member
Must hold a valid California CSR license and is an active member of the Los Angeles County Reporters Association.

Participating Member
Must have passed the State of California test for Hearing Reporters or must have passed the State of California test for shorthand reporters in California or must hold either the NCRA RPR or RMR. A stenographic writer primarily engaged as a CART Captioner or broadcast Captioner who holds a National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) Certified Broadcast Captioner, Certified CART Captioner or Certified Realtime Reporter certification. The Board of Directors may also consider for membership a stenographic writer who has been primarily engaged in the CART or captioning profession in an ongoing basis for over five years without certification and who is not a court reporting school student.

Associate Member
Any person not otherwise eligible for membership. Must qualify as an associate under Article IV, Section 2, Subsection 6 of the CCRA Bylaws.

Retired Member
Must have been a CCRA member in good standing for the last consecutive 10 years and have permanently retired from the active practice of shorthand reporting or from the active teaching of shorthand.

Instructor Member
Must be an instructor in the court reporting program at an accredited school.

Must not qualify for Associate, Participating or Regular Membership. Must be a student attending a recognized court reporting school.

Monthly Dues Payments with Donations

Donations to the CCRA Special Fund and/or PACCRA will reoccur monthly along with your dues amount.

Membership Cancellation Policy

Membership fee is non-refundable. Memberships are for individuals and are not transferable. The membership cycle is on a 12-month basis and members are assigned an anniversary date; therefore, regardless of which month you join, you will receive benefits for a full 12 months. Membership in CCRA does not represent an endorsement by CCRA of the member's company.

Tax Deductions

CCRA (EIN # 95-2666052) is 501(c)(6), non-profit organization. Contributions to section 501(c)(6) organizations are not deductible as charitable contributions on your federal income tax return. They may be deductible as trade or business expenses if ordinary and necessary in the conduct of the your business. Please consult your tax professional. California Court Reporters Association estimates that your dues which are allocated to lobbying expenses are 25% for the year 2023.
