Advocacy
CCRA employs a dedicated advocacy team in Sacramento to advance and protect the interests of California’s court reporting profession. CCRA actively monitors and engages in legislation introduced in the California Assembly and Senate that impacts our profession, our consumers, and the integrity of the record. We routinely appear before the California Court Reporters Board and the California Judicial Council.

As the only statewide organization advocating for every segment of the profession, CCRA proudly lobbies and represents on behalf of freelancers, CART captioners, officials, students, and California court reporting schools. Through its legislative and regulatory efforts, CCRA remains committed to protecting, preserving, and strengthening the future of our profession throughout California.

CCRA boasts a highly successful team of court reporting professionals who are knowledgeable and skilled in the California legislative arena. CCRA has defeated every single bill ever introduced to replace court reporters with electronic recording. Since 1980 there has been a minimum of 20 such attempts. CCRA provides extensive lobbying efforts in Sacramento and is the only organization lobbying for all reports.

Saturday Chat Series
CCRA’s Saturday Chat Series brings court reporting professionals together for informal, engaging conversations focused on the experiences, challenges, ideas, and opportunities that matter most in their area of the profession. These recurring virtual gatherings give members a place to ask questions, exchange practical tips, build relationships, and learn from colleagues who understand their work.

The Saturday Chat Series includes:

Coffee with Captioners - A welcoming conversation for captioners to connect with colleagues, share experiences, discuss industry topics, and exchange ideas and resources.
The Freelance Connection - A dedicated space for freelance court reporters to talk about the realities of freelance reporting, share practical insights, discuss challenges, and strengthen connections within the freelance community.

CCRA Certification Testing
Elevate Your Professional Credentials

Demonstrate your speed, precision, and mastery of realtime technology through CCRA’s official certification exams. Designed by working professionals for working professionals, these certifications validate your skill set and establish your expertise in high-demand environments.

Certified Realtime Generalist (CRG) Validates high-accuracy realtime translation, technical proficiency, and real-time writing capabilities for judicial and deposition court reporters.
Certified CART Generalist (CCG) Demonstrates excellence in providing high-speed, accurate Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) services for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals across educational, corporate, and public settings.

Exclusive to members: Take advantage of your membership to earn recognized credentials, distinguish yourself in the marketplace, and showcase your commitment to technical excellence.

Student Scholarship
CCRA awards a $2,000 scholarship to a court reporting student who has achieved speeds between 160 words per minute and the qualifier level. Scholarship recipients are selected by the Support Our Students Committee (SOS) and are subject to approval by the CCRA Board of Directors.

CCRA offers a $1,500 scholarship to a student who has successfully completed a Project Steno Basic Training Course and is actively pursuing a court reporting education. Scholarship recipients are subject to approval by the CCRA Board of Directors.

These scholarships reflect CCRA’s ongoing commitment to supporting and encouraging the next generation of court reporting professionals.

Students' Night Out Virtual Events
CCRA’s Student's Night Out events are held periodically throughout the year and provide student members with opportunities to connect directly with experienced professionals and presenters on topics that support their education and career journey.

These interactive virtual events cover timely topics designed specifically for future court reporters and captioners, offering practical insights, professional guidance, and an opportunity to ask questions and build connections within the profession.

Student Night Out events are a CCRA Student Member benefit, with at least one event each year open to all students, providing an opportunity to experience the value of connecting with CCRA and California’s court reporting community.

Readback
Build confidence, speed, and accuracy with CCRA Readback, a recurring online practice opportunity designed for high-speed students and new reporters working at 180+ words per minute.

Held on the first and third Mondays of each month from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Readback provides a supportive environment to strengthen reporting skills and gain valuable practice using your software.

Readback is available to all CCRA members at no additional cost, and no RSVP is required. Members simply check their email for Zoom access and reminders.

Tech Tuesdays
CCRA’s monthly technology tip series created specifically for court reporters. Each month, Tech Tuesday shares practical tips, helpful tools, shortcuts, and technology insights designed to make your workday easier, more efficient, and more connected.

From software features and productivity tools to equipment tips and emerging technology, Tech Tuesday helps court reporters stay informed and get more from the technology they use every day.
